VL600 - USB-C DP Alt-mode to HDMI2.0b Protocol Converter

Description

VIA Lab’s VL600 is a highly integrated single chip USB-C DP Alt-mode or DP1.4a to HDMI 2.0b protocol converter targeted for USB-C video dongles and USB-C multi-function docks. Integrated USB-C UFP CC1 pin and USB Billboard device, a single VL600 can convert DP signals to 4K@60Hz HDMI output on an USB-C plug-to-HDMI dongle. Accompanied with VLI’s diversified USB PD and Hub controllers, VL600 creates various USB-C multi-function dock applications with features like USB PD charge through and secure FW update at USB4 or USB3.2 Gen2 / Gen1 speed.
 
The DP receiver port supports up to a HBR3 8.1Gbps data rate over 4 lanes and the HDMI TMDS source supports up to 6Gbp data rate. Both DP receiver and TMDS source support color formats of RGB 8/10/12 bpc and YCbCr 4:4:4/4:2:2/4:2:0 8/10/12 bpc. Audio output supports up to 8 channels of LPCM at 32kHz, 44.1kHz, 48kHz, 88.2kHz, 96kHz, 176.4kHz, and 192kHz sample rate with sample size of 16, 20, and 24 bits. Also VL600 can support compressed audio formats. VL600 built-in HDCP 1.4 and HDCP 2.3 repeater function with embedded keys. The DP DSC1.1/1.2a compressed stream can be decoded by VL600 to uncompressed format and converted to the connected HDMI sink. VL600 also supports HDR metadata handling for high dynamic range content transmission. HDMI hot plug detection signal is detected by VL600 and output to either the DP receiver’s hot plug detection pin or to USB-C DP Alt-mode interface as a PD command. 
 
Built-in 8051 microcontroller with an interface to external SPI flash, VL600 can store its firmware code in standalone SPI flash or share SPI flash with VLI PD/Hub controller. Firmware upgrade can be done by USB Billboard, I2C slave interface, or DP AUX channel. 4 GPIO pins are available for specific application usage. VL600 is available in QFN 60L (7x7x0.85 mm).
