VIA Labs Launches Dedicated Electronic Marker Silicon Solutions for USB Type-C Cables
VIA Lab’s VL150 E-Marker for USB Type-C cables is designed for ease of manufacturing and will enable upcoming USB Type-C cables to report properties such as maximum signal rate and allowable current, in addition to manufacturer and USB-IF Certification information
Taipei, Taiwan, 12 March, 2015 - VIA Labs, Inc., a leading supplier of SuperSpeed USB silicon, today announced the availability of the VL150 Electronic Marker for USB Type-C cables. USB Type-C is a new cable and connector specification defined through the collaborative efforts of USB member companies including leading technology companies such as Apple, Google, Intel, and many others.
"Technology does not stand still, and USB Type-C has been designed with future expandability in mind" said Terrance Shih, Product Manager, VIA Labs, Inc. "While the decision to electronically mark all full-featured USB Type-C cables might seem controversial today, USB Type-C has been designed from the ground up to become a truly universal connector shared by mobile phones, tablets, desktop/laptop computers, consumer electronics, monitors and TV's, and countless accessories, for years to come. E-Marked cables are a fundamental building block which will allow for seamless experiences in a dynamic and ever-evolving ecosystem."
The VIA Labs VL150 is sampling now, with a mass production date targeted for early Q2/15. The VL150 will be initially available with an easy to manufacturer DFN 10 3x3mm package with generous 0.5mm pin pitch for high-yield production and a high-level of integration to minimize total implementation cost. VL150 also features powerful yet flexible programming options, allowing it to be easily integrated into a manufacturing flow.
